Actor Benicio Del Toro was supposed to be the first choice to play a major villain (ahem, it could be Khan but nothing is confirmed yet) in STAR TREK 2 but he has dropped out. However, a quick replacement have been found with two actors locked as front runners. They are Edgar Ramirez (THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM) and Jordi Molla (COLOMBIANA).
Director J.J. Abrams, who will return for the much-anticipated sequel, is expected to make a decision before the weekend. The sequel will be start shooting on January 15, 2012 with a planned release date on May 17, 2013.
