A Dutch fashion magazine Jackie editor has resigned the job on Tuesday (Dec 20) for publishing an article describing singer Rihanna’s fashion style as “n****b****.” Eva Hoeke, who had worked at the publication for eight years, quit after becoming embroiled in the racially-charged controversy.
The article describes about the Rihanna’s apparel from that magazine, she has street cred, she has a ghetto a** and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is that ultimate n****b**** and she displays that gladly – for her that means what’s on can come off. If that means she’ll be on stage half naked, then so be it.
She wrote that, I hope u can read English, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful, and rather desperate!!.... Later, Hoeke had tried to pass the whole thing off as a “joke,” but the hostility toward the publication continued. This left Hoeke only one option, to resign.
Eva Hoeke said on Facebook: ‘I hope that you all believe there was absolutely no racist motive behind the choice of words. It was naïve to think that this was an acceptable form of slang. You hear it all the time on TV and radio, then your idea of what is normal apparently shifts – but it was especially misguided: there was no malice behind it.’
Hoeke explained that she realize that her first reaction through Twitter, in which she indicated that it was a joke, has been an incomplete description of what her, and also the author of the article, meant. The term “n****b****” came from America and they solely used it to describe a style of dress… Through the course of events, Hoeke and the publisher have concluded that because her credibility is now affected, it is better for all parties if she quit my function as editor-in-chief effective immediately.
