HARRY POTTER Director David Yates Is Going Sci-Fi For DOCTOR WHO Movie!

Ever since director David Yates had finally wrapped up the lucrative HARRY POTTER franchise on July this year, he has become one of the most in-demand directors in Hollywood. Now Yates is teaming up with the BBC to turn the hugely popular sci-fi TV series Doctor Who into a big-screen franchise! Here's what Yates had to comment about his upcoming project.

We're looking at writers now. We're going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena. The notion of the time-traveling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time.

Doctor Who is highly regarded as the most successful sci-fi series of all time and also been listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running sci-fi television show in the world. The hugely popular series began life in 23 November 1963 and ran an incredible 26 seasons until 6 December 1989. However, the series stopped airing after its 26th seasons due to poor rating. BBC manages to revive Doctor Who briefly with a television movie in 1996 and it turned out to be a successful one in the UK. Then it took almost a decade before Doctor Who was finally returned in 2005, which was a direct continuation of the 1963-1989 series. Currently the series is still airing on the television, with eleven actors already played the Doctor Who character (William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, and Matt Smith).

With such rich history in the TV series, it's interesting to see whether Yates can live up to his promise to deliver a Doctor Who movie I'm sure every fans have been waiting for all this while.
