Hollywood Box office Gaint 'Hobbit' With $222.7m

The thrill of Bilbo Baggins' journey hasn't faded in the slightest. For the third weekend in a row, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey remained No. 1 and reached over a whopping $220M in the domestic box office. IMAX had another great Hobbit weekend $4.3 mil domestically and another $4.1 mil internationally, which is a solid hold. The IMAX global cumulative as of end of year will be approx $50 million! The Warner Bros. production is the 11th film to surpass $200M in 2012.

Not far behind for the weekend was Tarantino's brutal American Western, Django Unchained. The Weinstein Co. film, which opened Christmas Day, grabbed nearly $30.7M at the box office. For Broadway and Hathaway lovers alike, musical flick Les Miserables (also a Dec. 25 premiere) roped in slightly above $28M. Next up was Fox's Parental Guidance with a $14.8M weekend debut.
